Sharjah Art Center

The Sharjah Art Center, housed in Bait Al Serkal was inaugurated on April 9, 1997 (Bait Al Serkal housed the Sharjah Art Museum from 1995 to 1997). This 2 story building with an area of 26 sq. meters, in addition to an interior courtyard of 441 sq. meters, is a restored heritage building in Al Shuwaihiyeen area, built approximately 150 years ago.

The history of the house is fascinating. During the ownership of Sheikh Mohammed bin Saqr Al Qassimi, the Ruler's father, the house was extended to include a number of shops, and the area to the side of the house became known as the Souk Mohammed bin Saqr. In the early 1960's, the house, due to its central location and size was transformed by the American Missionary into the Sarah Hosman Hospital.

Sharjah Art Center offers art courses and classes to students aged 12 years and above. Children can successfully complete their art training at one of the child centers. The teaching is conducted by a team of qualified art teachers.
