Snorkeling

The East Coast provides a haven for small fish and coral, offering good snorkeling in warm shallow waters.  Enjoy the colorful sights but watch out for the camouflaged Stone Fish, which can be very vindictive if you step on it.

The infamous ‘Sharque Island’ in the Bay of Khor Fakkan and ‘Snoopy Island’ opposite Sandy Beach Motel, on the East Coast both offer great snorkeling at shallow depths. At low tide you can walk to Snoopy Island but a swim is required at high tide.  Sharque Island is only accessible by boat.

Tip

·        To avoid sunburn on unsuspecting shoulders, wear a UV suit or T-shirt.

·        Wear plastic shoes or sandals in the shallows and when exploring the islands.  The rocks can be very sharp.

Be careful where you put your feet so as not to damage the coral.  If you stand on coral it may die.
