The Sharjah Art Museum, established in 1995 under the Art Directorate of the Department of Culture & Information, is housed in Bait Al Serkal, Al Shuwaihiyeen area. The museum is used to display the permanent collection of artworks on the ground floor. Since its opening, thirty-three solo and group exhibitions and related activities were held at the venue.
Under the guidance of HH Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, the Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, a new Sharjah Art Museum building was inaugurated on April 9, 1997. The building has a total area of 111,000 sq. meters. The building has 2 stories, a roof deck and a basement car park. Standing in the art area it is in harmony with the other five heritage buildings.
The Sharjah Art Museum has state-of-the-art interior facilities of international art museum standards. The building is designated to the display of permanent collections of the museum and holds periodical art exhibitions for local artists and their Arab brothers as well as international artists. Other activities of the museum include organizing exchange exhibitions in coordination with art museums and other such cultural establishments and implementing various programs organized by the Department of Culture and Information in coordination with the Art Directorate and the Emirates Fine Arts Society. The lecture and seminar hall is well equipped and designed for audiovisual presentations and the implementation of educational programs. Publications are printed for all art exhibitions and relevant activities held at the museum. Documentation of various programs in audiovisual format are also produced.
The Art library at the museum, which supports study, teaching and research, is also well equipped with books, periodicals and other relevant printed materials and materials in electronic format. The coffee shop of the museum is spacious, designed with a friendly atmosphere, to serve beverages and snacks to visitors. The book and souvenir shop works as an outlet for the museum publications.
Security is guaranteed inside the museum by a highly sophisticated electronic system, covering the entire museum area and each item displayed. A highly effective fire fighting system and smoke detector are also provided, in addition to the conventional human security.
Permanent Collection of the Museum
The permanent collections of the Sharjah Art Museum are exhibited in groups in the museum. These valuable pieces of artwork are from the collection of HH Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, The Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.
The Museum welcomes its visitors during the following timings:
Daily from 9 am to 1 pm and 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Friday: from 5.00 PM to 8.00 PM Only
Wednesday: Afternoon ladies only
Public Holidays: from 9 am to 1 PM and .00 PM to 8.00 PM
The Museum is closed on Mondays
Admission to Sharjah Art Museum is free of charge.

Al Shuwaiheyn, tucked in behind the bazaar, close to Al Boorj Avenue and the waterfront. Follow the signs for the Arts Cafe. Public parking is available alongside the Creek (3 minutes walk away) or use the basement parking below the Sharjah Art Museum.
